Familian Spikers remain perfect to clinch championship
The Familian Spikers vanquished the St. Joseph’s College (SJC) volleyball varsity team, 25-13, 25-7, 25-18 to claim the championship title in the AAPS District 4 volleyball tournament at the Familian Court, Friday.
The Familian Spikers took the lead early in the third set, 5-2 aided by two drops from the team captain, Alyssa Angkaw. Erin Navarro’s off-the-block hit led the Spikers to an 18-16 lead. An error from their opponent secured the set, 25-18.
Two consecutive attacks from the Spikers’ team captain followed by a service ace from Tricia Balagat and a down-the-line attack from Erin Navarro pinned SJC at 20-7. An error by SJC’s captain, Michal Puyot ended the third frame, 25-7.
A service ace in the first set from Balagat at 21-10 kept the Spikers’ momentum aflame and another one from Denise Arroyo at 23-11.
Caitlyn Castillo lead the Familian Spikers with 12 points composed of 11 service aces and 1 attack.
“Pinaghandaan namin ‘yong game namin,” Castillo on her team’s advantage against SJC.
St. Joseph’s College varsity team chalked up 6 attacks in the championship match.
