Familian Spikers conquer School of the Holy Spirit for finals ticket
The Familian Spikers triumphed over the tenacious volleyball varsity team of the School of the Holy Spirit (SHS), 25-16, 24-26, 15-10, last Sunday to remain undefeated in the 22nd Women’s Volleyball League, 13 Under Developmental Division at the Xavier School, San Juan.
Three consecutive successful attacks from SHS’s Ticman deducted one from the Spikers’ two-point lead, 10-9. An attack courtesy of Llorente distanced the Spikers’ at 11-9 followed by an ace from San Gabriel. An error from the opponent won the match for the Spikers.
The opponents proved their grit in the second frame as they tied the set at 18-18. The Spikers’ extended the set with 2 aces from Reyes, 24-25 but an attack error made a third set possible for the thrilling game.
Llorente gave the Spikers their first 2 points through service aces followed by 2 attacks from Nebres aided by the setter, Dimaculangan to increase their lead, 6-2. The younger San Lorenzo and Reyes scored one point apiece to finish the first set, 25-16.
Llorente chalked up 11 points made up of 8 attacks and 3 service aces. For the other side, Ticman made 7 points from four aces and three attacks.
The Spikers will be facing St. Paul College of Makati for the championship on Sunday at the San Beda University
