Memory Monday: Ensayaw Holds First Dance Concert

With their display of jaw-dropping and breathtaking dances, along with the stunning performances of other dance crews, Ensayaw held their first ever dance concert entitled “Generation Z” last March 24, 2018 at the JBR Theatre of St. Paul University of Q.C, to fund their future endeavors.

Hosted by Rin Rin Raz, a former member of Ensayaw, and Dora Dorado, a member of the House of Mizrahi and House of Imperial Waacking, the program began with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the doxology gracefully performed by Ensayaw.

Ensayaw kicked off the concert by dancing along to the hits of Kendrick Lamar. Hataw x Watah, the dance crew and alumni group of Claret School of Q.C., respectively, took the stage and showed off their moves. Ensayaw then showcased the dance crazes of Generation Z, such as juju on the beat, whip and nae nae, and running man. Personifying Bruno Mars’ dance style, Team Vibe wowed the crowd with their finesse. Sam De Leon and Nicole Po, members of the OPM quartet who represented Holy Family School at the 58th Children's Museum and Library, Inc. Annual Convention, then serenaded the crowd with their rendition of Toxic by Britney Spears.

After a 10-minute break, Ensayaw welcomed back the audience with videos and pictures of their performance at the MYX Moves Street Dance Competition. Ensayaw then boldly made a statement in their next performance, acknowledging the culture of vanity, bullying, and stereotyping in this age of social media. The next dance crew to perform, Kinection, took the floor and flaunted their moves. Autonomicass Crew, the 2017 World Champion in Domination International Mammoth Division in Brisbane Australia, heated up the venue with their sick dance moves. Ensayaw then brought the audience back in time with their performance consisting of hiphop music in the late 80s to early 90s. Ensayaw’s dance routine at San Beda’s Body Wars, their first interschool competition aside from CMLI, was then performed.

To express their appreciation, Ensayaw dedicated an audio-visual presentation to their Coach, Jet “Vngeance” David. The floor was then given to the people behind the success of Ensayaw: Jet “Vngeance” David, the Coach of Ensayaw and a member of Hybrids of Freedom; Vanessa Samson, a member of Team Vibe; Jomattz Quiambao, the Chosen Grounds 13 3 on 3 All Styles Champion; Asilum Bernardino, a member of Autonomicass Crew; Melvin Calayag, a member of Hybrids of Freedom; and Dhztine Bernardino, a member of Hybrids of Freedom and Autonomicass Crew.

To bid farewell, a video of the outgoing seniors of Ensayaw saying their goodbyes was then played, which was followed by their moving and emotion-packed performance, with “Huling Sayaw” by Kamikazee as their choice of music – and fittingly so.

Next in line were the Hybrids of Freedom, a Philippine Krump Crew, and Freedom Descendants, the next generation leaders of the Philippine Krump Scene, as they excellently exhibited their dance moves and swept the audience off their feet.

Before the concert ended, an audio-visual presentation dedicated towards the people who have supported Ensayaw was played. For the finale, Ensayaw skilfully demonstrated the art and craft of Krump.

In between performances, the hosts engaged the audience with the Boomerang Game, requiring the participants to create a Boomerang move based on the situation provided, and the Imitation Game, with the participants imitating a dance style to be assigned to them.

Generation Z was sponsored by: North Star Customs Brokerage, New Acto Engineering Works, Universal Robina Corporation, JKAS Catering Services and Events Management, Treetop Adventure, Pacific Cross Philippines, TAG Media and Public Relations, Zoomanity Group; and Slimmers World SM North Edsa; and their media sponsors: JayR del Rosario Films, Visual Menace, and The Raw Shot Photographs.
