Familian Spikers open Campaign with Back-To-Back Wins

The Spikers showed their district opponents the Familian spirit of hard-work after winning both of their opening matches in the Elementary and High School Girls Division of AAPS 2018 last Monday at the Familian Court.

Familians Overpower Marians

Angkaw of Familian Spikers did not waste time, immediately helping her team gain momentum with two service aces, 2-0 but St. Mary’s College of Quezon City’s (SMCQC) Natividad challenged such momentum after two aces, reducing the home team’s lead to 1 at 6-5.

Despite committing an error prior, which resulted to a deadlock at 9-all, Angkaw was able to deliver an attack to the opponent’s court. Two successful plays courtesy of the San Jose-Angkaw connection ended the first set, 25-12.

Navarro’s push to the ball gave the Spikers their biggest lead in the match at 6-0 but errors helped the opponents catch up. Elcano’s attack ate the defending champion’s lead once more, 11-10.

A hit to zone 6 from Angkaw had the Marians’ defence frozen, giving the Spikers more chances to attack and serve aces. The match was concluded with an opponent’s error following an ace from Ombid, 25-18.

Spikers Win Straight Sets Against St. Joseph’s College

Three consecutive aces from San Lorenzo had the Spikers leading at 7-4 but Dayoan’s persistent attacks sent the set to a tie at 11-11.

Nazareno managed to pave the way for the Spikers at 15-12 fuelling an attack by San Lorenzo and two service aces from Janoras which gave them the set, 25-17.

Team captain Caraan dropped the ball resulting to 6-4 but her team being unable to find a good reception transferred the lead to the opponent, 7-6. Caraan, though, remained calm and persistent which resulted to her attacking the other side and wrapping up the match at 25-12.

Angkaw from the High School Girls Division chalked up 14 points while Janoras from the Elementary Girls Division scored 12 points for the Spikers.
