The Familian Spikers at a drub as they ascend to the semi-finals

Holy Family School’s Familian Spikers were up against the high school volleyball team of St. Joseph’s College (SJC) on October 9, Wednesday for the AAPS 2019 Tournament held at the familian covered court. Where the spikers became victorious after defeating their opponents with the scores of 27:25 and 25:9 continuing their winning streak of 4-0 and securing a spot in the semi-finals.


The Spikers were off to a great start, even though SJC took the first point after San Lorenzo’s receive went outside. Nebres quickly took back that point, at 1:1. From there on, HFS continued to rack points

The home team were leading at 24:19 making SJC’s Echauz determined to bring her team points to seal the 5-point gap between them and the Spikers. Echauz draws blood as she succeeds to gain those 5 points by drawing blood as she allowed SJC to meet HFS at a deuce of 24:24.


The battle was tense as Echauz sends another ball to the Spikers, initiating a rally where San Jose saved the ball near the net, sending it back and onto the opponent’s court at 25:24.


With only one more to win the set, Catalan was not able to send the ball within bounds, resulting in a point for SJC, putting the score back on match point 25:25.


SJC’s Tinong sparked a longstanding rally wherein a swift attack from Nebres, followed by a service ace from San Jose, ended the set at 27:25.


Angkaw starts off the second set with a powerful attack, followed by Respicio who sent 2 service aces before the Spikers commit a receive error at 3:1.


SJC’s Tinong served the ball into the Spikers court, a rally between the two commenced, allowing Arroyo, to set the ball to Angkaw who delivered a strong spike as the opponent’s attention was on Caraan who pulled a decoy by jumping a second faster than Angkaw. Their impressive team-up set them 3 points ahead at 4:1.

Caraan sent 7 consistent services before sending the 8th out of bounds putting the spikers in the lead with 12:4 on the scoreboard.


Navarro showered their opponents with 8 consecutive services before falling short for the 9th increasing their score to 27:8. With the 14-point gap, SJC was flustered as they struggled to comeback from such a big aperture.


With one service error from SJC, the Familian Spikers’ ticket to the semi-finals were sealed.
