The Familian Spikers dominate SPUQC as they soar scratch less

With straight wins and no loses under their belt, the Familian Spikers became back-to-back champions at the AAPS 2019 Tournament taking place in the familian covered court on October 11, 2019. Holy Family School of Quezon City Inc. (HFSQC) and St. Paul University of Quezon City (SPUQC) battled it out in a 5-set match up that ultimately ended with our very own Familian Spikers winning three straight sets with the scores of 25:19, 25:13, and 25:14.


It was clear to the Spikers that they met their match as Angkaw’s first service easily received and sent back by their opponents, but Navarro shuts the rally with an attack. HFS opening the game by taking the first point.


Ablan serves, initiating a rally where Angkaw easily confused her opponent by switching from a spike to a dump, setting the score at 13:10.


SPUQC’s Valdez sent the ball to the spikers, Navarro and Tiamson both jump to block the ball, resulting to a joust as the two athletes compete for the point with Navarro taking the point at 18:12.


Tiamson, SPUQC, took the ball and jumbled the Spikers defense as she sent 3 successful services before Navarro turns the table with a kill at 19:16.


Navarro ended the set with 3 fruitful services, two of which were service aces as the set ended with 25:19 on the board.


SPUQC’s Zafra start off the second set by taking the first point. Caraan steps in and set the point at 3:3 with a service ace. For every successful serve was matched with an equally strong receive from SPUQC, neither team backing down through consecutive rallies. The tense rallies forced SPUQC to call for a time out at 7:3.

Tinsay from SPUQC caused a tense rally that made Ablan attack out of bounds but Angkaw pulls through, finding a hole in the opponents’ defense and managing to attack. Scoring 15:9.


With an array of service errors near the end of the match, SPUQC’s team captain, Dumlao, sealed the second set with her error letting the Spikers take the win at 25:13. Ending the second set swiftly.


One more win was needed by the Spikers to take snag the gold yet for the Paulinians, this was their last shot of redemption. The home team had a rocky start after SPUQC took the first point and the following points, making it hard for the Spikers to bounce back.


As SPUQC’s Tinsay and Tiamson tag teamed to block the Spikers’ attack, it was no match for Arroyo and Navarro’s team up where Arroyo assists with a set to Navarro, allowing the spiker to burst through the opponents’ wall and setting the score at 10:7.


Tiamson’s serve sparked a tense rally between the Paulinians and the Familian Spikers, where Tinsay showcased her athleticism with a strong jump attack. Yet it was no match for Angkaw’s block that did not let Tinsay win as she brings the score up to 22:12.


With one swift service ace, Caraan sealed her teams’ fate as she brought the scores to 25:14. Making the Familian Spikers back-to-back champions.
