The Familian Spikers move up to the championships
The Familian Spikers ascend to the championships for the AAPS 2019 Tournament after they won their semi-finals game against Trinity University of Asia (TUA) at the familian court on October 10. It was a tense 5-set match up but Holy Family School pulled their weight and concluded the game with the scores of 25:6, 25:17, 21:25, 25:15.
Caraan draws blood after serving 12 consecutive and successful services to start off the set, the Spikers flooding the scores at 12:2 before being unable to send the ball back.
As Navarro steps onto the service line, she was able to spark 5 rallies, most of which allowed the Spikers to show their athleticism by shutting down their opponents with strong attacks before Navarro failed to send the ball within bounds. Putting the score at a dominating 22:6.
It was with Bagtang, TUA, service error that cleared the first set for the Familian Spikers, setting the score at 25:6.
TUA’s Gagarin started off the second set with 3 services that brought the home team to a jumble. Allowing TUA to score the first three points at 0-3. It was only after Gagarin’s service error where the spikers were able to gain their first point at 3:1.
As the two teams go back and forth with neither one wanting the other to win, Ablan steps in to bring home 6 points. With the aid of Ablan’s service, Angkaw was able to confuse TUA’s players after quickly switching from a spike to a dump, making her opponents scurry to the ball, only for it to drop and take their point away. The Spikers were able to set 12:7 on the scoreboard.
As TUA attempts to catch up, they were no match from Angkaw’s block thus, setting the score for a solid 23:14. The Spikers were able to snag the second set once again after TUA’s Sadoy committed a service error, sealing the set at 25:17.
With only one set needed to gain the ticket for championships, the Spikers kicks off the third set with a serve from Catalan that allowed Nebres to deliver a powerful attack. Allowing HFS to take the first point.
TUA’s Fernandez successfully serves the ball, sparking a rally where Tubon successfully blocks their enemies attack and ties the scores at 7:7.
With four points ahead of them, San Jose attacks to catch up, putting the points at 15:18. TUA’s Chua gains service rights after the Spikers committed an error, succeeding in taking two points through service aces. With only a point away from winning the third set, Chua fails to serve the ball, leaving the scores at 19:24 before TUA called for a time out
Caraan steps in to deliver a service ace but unfortunately, the Spikers lost the set to TUA after a service error, leaving the scoreboard at 21-25.
Filled with determination to seal a spot for the championships, the Spikers tried to recover from the lost set as Caraan aids Navarro as she conveyed a strong attack that immediately shut down TUA’s defense, winning the first point of the set. 1:0
Caraan steps in the service line again, initiating a rally between the two teams until TUA’s miscommunication let the ball drop over their heads. The second point going to HFS at 2:0.
As Respicio steps in to serve the ball, creating an intense rally, Caraan was able to successfully send the ball to the opponent’s court as Angkaw assists by luring the opponents to believe that she would hit. The scores at 10-7.
The set was tense but the Spikers didn’t let the pressure get to them as they continued to widen the gap between them and their opponents. It was with Navarro’s service that allowed Angkaw to secure their ticket to the championships and add another win to their scratchless record as the set ended with the score of 25:15.
